古希臘文英譯:

And when rosy-fingered Dawn, the early-born, appeared, at that time I for my part, having called for a meeting, said among them, “On the one hand, now the rest of you, my faithful companions, remain [sc. here], but I for my part, having gone with my ship and my companions, will make trial of these men [sc. to discover] who they are, whether they are haughty and savage and not just/righteous, or hospitable and of a god-fearing mind.” I, having spoken so, began to board on the ship, and commanded the companions themselves to board on and to loose and draw up the stern-cables.

And they began to walk onto (=board) quickly and began to sit on the benches, and, sitting in order, began to strike the grayish sea with the oars. But when  we arrived at the land which is nearby, and there we saw on the edge [sc. of the shore] nearby the sea, a lofty cave roofed over with laurel, and many flocks, both sheep and goats, are accustomed to pass the night there.
