And from there we were carried by the destructive winds for nine days at the fish-swarming sea, but on the tenth day we went on the land of the Lotus-Eaters, who eat the food made of flowers.

And quickly there we walked on land and drew water, and our companions took dinner nearby the swift ships.

But when we partook of food and drink, at that time indeed I for my part sent forth my companions to go to learn what men they were (dwelling) on the land and eating food, after I had picked out two men and had sent a third man as the herald at the same time.

And those who went their way quickly became mingled  with the people, i.e., the Lotus-Eaters. Then the Lotus-Eaters did not contrive destruction for my companions, but gave them to partake of the lotus.
